How illegal is it for a server to change a credit card tip receipt?

A server that was hired a few weeks ago at my establishment was caught changing the amounts on the credit card tips by the management. Apparently he kept changing them on most of the tips and none of the customers affected had gotten their transcripts yet. My manager said they will prosecute this to the DA. Is this a felony or a misdemeanor and will he be able to work in the restaurant industry again if he lies about the incident to another employer? How illegal is it for a server to change a credit card tip receipt?
Depends on the state and the amounts. It is theft and he is unlikely to get any job where he touches money with any company that does any kind of background check. How illegal is it for a server to change a credit card tip receipt?
Sounds like theft to me.
It's probably a felony. It's fraud and theft of the patron's money. The credit card companies would likely get involved in pursuing the server for this fraud, in addition to the patron, their bank and the police. Whether the server is permitted to work in the restaurant industry again or not is probably dependent upon whether he or she fesses up to the crime on later applications. For your establishment's protection it would be wise to distance yourselves from this server and his misdeeds.
YESS it is very illegal. If you have concrete proof you should contact the local P.D. this is theft (Misdemenor) and should be dealt as such. most likely this individual wiill work in the restraunt industry until hes nailed for a felony.
It's fraud and theft at the least.
Very illegal and could be considered identity theft.
That's theft. It could be a felony depending on the amount stolen and if the dirtbag has a record.
